Iberia Spanish Airlines Strike Thursday 29th December

The Iberia strike is going ahead tomorrow (Thursday 29th December).

The Chairman of Iberia has ruled out any possibility of the SEPLA pilots union calling off the second day of strike action, despite an offer that if the strike is cancelled pilots can transfer from Iberia to the new low-cost Iberia Express without any change in their rights.

118 flights are expected to be cancelled on Thursday (36% of the total), but 90% of the 10,000 passengers affected have already been relocated to other airlines. Air Nostrum and Vueling flights are not affected.

Iberia Express is being launched at the end of March 2012 and will run four A320 planes on short and medium haul routes. By the end of the year the plans are to run 13 planes with a staff of 500 including 130 pilots.
