At a meeting in Barcelona earlier today it was announced that estimated debts for the airline Spanair have been put at 300 million euros with bankruptcy documents presented to the Mercantile Court at lunchtime.
The closure of Spanair has affected more than 15,300 passengers today. The Iberia pilots are on strike again today and have offered to fly for nothing for Spanair on special flights to help affected passengers. Iberia has called the SEPLA pilots hypocrites when their own clients are suffering their strike action.
Rival airline Vueling has seen its shares rise by more than 20% on the IBEX today after the announcement of the failure of its rival.
