With the major airlines reducing the number of flights into Malaga Costa del Sol Airport over the low season, don’t leave it until the last minute to book seats as you could well be disappointed.
Everyone I know who has been travelling to and from Malaga over the past few months (not just Christmas and New Year) have reported full flights and reduced schedules.
Malaga was the favourite destination for British tourists this summer with Palma de Mallorca in second place. The Costa del Sol was more popular than prime European destinations including London, Tuscany (Italy) and Nice (France). Ibiza came in sixth, while Costa Blanca towns of Javea, Moraira and Denia shared 10th place.
The total spent by visitors to Spain this summer was €19.7 billion which is an 8% increase on the same period in 2010. British tourists spent more in Spain than any other nationality followed by the Germans.
Around 80% of tourists visiting Andalucia arrive at Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport, and it is expected 13 million passengers will use the airport this year.
